Event Details
Artsmark Development day is a day of CPD for two members of school staff (including a member of the school’s SLT). These sessions will explain your journey ahead, support high level planning for the arts and culture in your school and allow you to network with other schools in your area.
Overview of the Artsmark Process
Self-assessment Tool
Schools are invited to undertake a self-assessment exercise using the Artsmark self-assessment tool. This will give a school a general sense of its ‘start point’ in terms of arts capacity and quality of provision.
Development Day
Two members of staff including a member of the school’s SLT attend a Development day which is run by Arts Connect. At this event they begin high level planning for the arts in their school by drafting an Artsmark Statement of Commitment (SoC).
Artsmark Delivery
Back at school the Statement of Commitment is finalised and signed off by the headteacher and chair of governors. The Statement of Commitment will be the key arts planning document and will tie arts provision to overarching aims in the School’s strategy – as evidenced in School Improvement or Development plans.
Case Studies
We will ask you to reflect on your Statement of Commitment and use templates provided by ACE as a method of reporting back and as a prompt for structured reflection.
Additional evidence
Alongside your Case Study, you can submit details of the following to support your evidence:
- pupil level data
- teacher assessments of individual pupil attainment levels
- any other relevant evidence that might demonstrate impact of arts work either at pupil level or whole school level
- critical friend visits
Levelling
We will ask you to use descriptors and indicators devised by ACE and Bridge Organisation self-assess your strengths, weaknesses, start points and areas for development. This will help to test the consistency of the proposed Artsmark levels and degrees of differentiation between each.
If you have any queries about this day or Artsmark in general, please do not hesitate to contact us on artsmark@wlv.ac.uk
