Arts and Nature: Thinking Differently about the Outdoors in the Early Years
Join us for a wonderful day at Compton Verney, investigating the connections between Arts and Nature in the early years in thought provoking, engaging and practical exploration of themes and the sharing of early years practice.
There will be opportunity to explore the grounds of Compton Verney, and exhibitions in ways to enable you to engage with, reflect on and enrich your practice in learning with and in nature through the arts with young children aged 2-5 years.
Hear from, Louise Lowings, Head Teacher of Madeley Nursery School, Telford who will present and lead a workshop exploring the languages of art and the vitality of researching outdoor spaces with young children with nature. Emma Butchart, Learning and Diversity Manager at Compton Verney will be sharing upcoming work “Living Symphonies” connecting music, sound, and the biodiversity of the landscape with opportunity to engage practically in thinking differently about arts and nature with young children in the outdoors. There will also be opportunity to explore an exhibition of Dutch Flower paintings, using this as a stimulus to consider ways of expressing and representing ideas about nature through the arts.
No experience is needed; it will be an engaging and practical workshop and open to all abilities across education, arts, culture and heritage organisations interested in the arts and nature in the early years. Part of this seminar will take place outdoors, so do wear suitable clothing and footwear.
With refreshments and lunch provided.
