Arts Connect Summer School for Teachers

Ten local art teachers joined us for this year’s Arts Connect Summer School run in collaboration with Ikon Gallery and Wolverhampton School of Art.

Our Summer School is designed for teachers of all levels who want to build on their art practice, be inspired by contemporary art and grow connections with like-minded educators. Over two days teachers explored a range of contemporary art making techniques taking inspiration from Ikon’s Summer Exhibitions: Thread the Loom and artwork by Seulgi Lee. Teachers got hands on in a felt workshop with artist Sarah Karen and took part in a full day explorative painting workshop led by Senior Fine Art lecturer Laura Onions and Illustration lecturer Amy Dewhirst.

VOICES FROM THE SUMMER SCHOOL

I have attended the Arts Connect Summer School for several years, and have found it a highly rewarding experience. The opportunity to network and be creative with colleagues across the art and design education sector has been invaluable. The activities have always been highly engaging and have really helped give me some space to think about my own creativity and ideas, rather than just my students.

I’m grateful for the chance to collaborate with other art teachers at this year’s summer school. As well as the opportunity to experiment with techniques and materials that can easily be transferred directly to the classroom.
