Teaching Drawing in the Primary Classroom: Creativity in the Classroom – Art CPD for Schools

As an art lead with over 15 years’ teaching experience and now the Education Producer at Arts Connect with the responsibility for developing CPD programmes for our teacher audiences, l know that whilst drawing is a core element of the KS1 and 2 art and design curriculum, it is far more than that. Through teaching children to become knowledgeable, skilled and confident at drawing we give them the tools to capture, translate and express what they see, think and feel. Through learning to draw in different ways children can investigate the world around them, imagine new possibilities and create unique artworks.

I have designed our Drawing in the Primary Classroom workshop to be a combination of presentation, practical activities and discussion allowing teachers to learn and apply drawing techniques, explore a range of drawing teaching strategies and create actionable plans for developing drawing lessons in their classrooms. We’ll get hand’s on with materials, try our individual and collaborative activities and have time to connect with other primary teachers and art leads.

I want teachers to leave the workshop with the ideas, skills and confidence to try out different ways of teaching drawing that engage and inspire their children and that they have fun trying out what they’ve learned.
