Moonbeams Seminar – Physicality and Musicality in the Early Years

Explore the use of playfulness in developing movement and music in early years, for both inside and outside environments. This online seminar will consider approaches to musicality and physicality in early childhood and give you opportunities to reflect on your own practice.
No experience needed, the seminar will:
• Be interactive
• Include opportunities to observe and discuss children’s physicality and musicality
• Create space for participants to engage in small group discussions to support and develop practice and provision.
Moonbeams’ Artist Seminar Leaders
Peppy Hills, Dance/Movement Specialist
Peppy has worked in community dance for over thirty years in numerous settings in this country and abroad. Her approach is play based, using choreographic devices in a spontaneous way to support movement interactions. Peppy sees movement as an important communication tool and has worked with staff, babies and young children, and parents in many early years’ settings, exploring ways of moving together. She is a qualified Play Therapist, Associate of Early Education, published author and Associate Lecturer and co-module leader for the Creativity and the Arts in Early Years module as part of CREC/BCU Masters programme.
Nicola Burke, Early Years Music Specialist
Nicola has worked extensively as a music specialist in a range of early years settings across the country. She strongly feels that everyone is born musical and an integral part of early childhood is music making. Nicola is an Associate of Early Education and is currently leading Tri-Music Together and Sounds of Play, large workforce development projects taking place across West London and Birmingham involving a range of arts and music organisations and EY services. She created the award-winning Tune into Listening free online resource and in 2018 wrote Musical Development Matters, a free downloadable resource. She is passionate about creating enabling, meaningful experiences for young children and believes that partnership work is a key aspect towards achieving this.
