Exploring Visual Contemporary Arts Practices for Teachers

Suitable for all creative visual arts teachers, performing arts teachers and leaders from Primary, Secondary, EYFS, SEND, alternative provision, FE and HE settings. Also open to arts and cultural organisations. This free session is designed to support teachers who would like to explore visual contemporary art thinking and making techniques within their teaching.
The session will begin with an introduction to contemporary visual arts led by Dr Andrew Yarnold and use the current Wolverhampton Art Gallery exhibition ‘Stellar’ to explore contemporary arts practices and approaches to questioning contemporary art for teachers.
Contemporary artist Frederick Hubble will be leading the second half of the session, Frederick is a Black Country/Birmingham based artist who is currently showing his work as part of The Asylum Art Gallery Ltd exhibitions ‘The (Spaces) in-between’ at Wolverhampton Art Gallery. During the session Fredrick will share examples of his work, explore thinking and making processes and discuss possibilities for investigating and creating visual contemporary art with young people.
Wolverhampton has been selected as the opening city for British Art Show 9 from March to May 2021! The British Art Show 9 is acknowledged as one of the most important recurrent touring exhibitions of contemporary art produced in this country and is unrivalled in its scope and national reach. Over 30 contemporary artists will be sharing their work through sculpture, painting, installation, drawing, photography, film, video and performance. This session will introduce how to work with contemporary visual arts in readiness for working with British Art Show 9.
There will be opportunities to link to your local Cultural Education Partnership and future teacher focused sessions. We will also be sharing resources, links and ideas for research and school activities.
