This showcase is a celebration of artworks made by pupils from twelve Birmingham primary schools during January 2020 – October 2021, as part of the regional schools’ consortia, Creative Connections. The project involved 900 primary school pupils who visited Ikon’s exhibitions before the pandemic, and then worked with Birmingham-based visual artists back in their classrooms to create bold and experimental pieces responding to the theme of ‘belonging’. Creative Connections is organised and funded in partnership with Arts Connect.
Schools included Audley Primary School, Beechwood CE Primary School, Bromley Pensnett Primary School, Brownmead Academy, Elms Farm Community Primary School, Hillstone Primary School, Hob Green Primary School, Jervoise School, Princethorpe Infant School, Sladefield Infant School, The Oval School and Wychall Primary School.
Artists included Mahtab Hussain, Will Kew, Mark Riley, Larissa Shaw, Jane Thakoordin, Wendy Tournay and Simon Wingfield.
Exhibitions included Meryl McMaster and John Walker.
