In this exciting Moonbeams seminar, artist Claire Witcomb will explore and share her experience and knowledge of how to look for, find, assemble, store, prepare and plan, easy ways to use and re-use materials in play and exploration with young children.
During the session you will engage with materials in a practical way, as well as having opportunities to think about your setting and generate ideas on the many different ways you can incorporate these materials into children’s learning.
No prior experience is needed, it will be an inspiring and practical day and open to all interested in engaging sustainably with materials in play with young children.
My name is Claire Witcomb and I am an artist, designer and maker. I re-use and re-purpose materials wherever I can. The work I do is varied. I trained as a sculptor and work in nurseries, schools, galleries, museums and with communities. I have worked on commissioned pieces, public art and creative workshops. I use a lot of different media and materials to design, build and enable play in learning spaces indoors and outdoors with a focus on nature and the environment. I have built interactive boards for young children, and children with SEND using a variety of approaches including mosaic, drawing, clay, design, crafts, mixed media arts and sculpture. I re-use and repurpose materials wherever I can. I lso work as a resident or visiting artist within schools, supporting pedagogical practice.
